AshlandLiveMusic
A listing of all the live (hence its name) music in Ashland, Oregon, and
the surrounding vicinity including Medford, Talent, Phoenix, the
Applegate, and more to come. Started and maintained by Scott.
Mad World
WWR members Kevin & Bruce McKern and Joe Diehl play in this
originals band, based in Medford, OR. Check out their web site for clips,
more info, and upcoming gig dates. Also check out
their MySpace page. Mad World has produced over 100
original songs in eight years!
Earthshine
Scott Calamar's personal web site includes multi-tracked MP3s of just
about every song he's written, plus a bunch more stuff. You can jump
directly to the songs by going to
this page. I guarantee that Wine Without Reason's
versions will beat the solo stuff but it still may interest you (so
says Scott).
Smatter
A "legendary" late-'70s college band featuring Sim Glaser, Jack Wade,
Alan Trebat, and Scott, also performing original material. Though the
band was only together for the better part of a college year, the
members reunite every once in a while to record and play new music.
The Horsefeathers
Long before Wine Without Reason uttered a melody, there was (were?) The
Horsefeathers, with original songs by Craig Wright, well-known in
Ashland as a great songwriter and musical mentor. The last
incarnation of The Horsefeathers featured Joe, Kevin, & Bruce.
Sugar Rush
Featuring WWR guitarist Joe Diehl and vocalist Angelina, this
relatively new band has made waves in Ashland. It also includes Brian
Scalise, Alan Crutcher, and John DiFruscia.
Smoky Red A duo, a trio, a full
band! Could you ask for more? Led by piano player Jim Quinby and sultry
singer Marcella Ruikis, the band includes Jeff Addicott, Brent Norton,
and Mike Fitch. Smoky Red can be heard at The Avalon, Alex's, Roscoe's,
The Wild Goose, Inti, and some wineries and special events.
Alex's
Plaza Restaurant
Some would say this is the social center of the Ashland scene, plus a
great venue in town. WWR plays here from time to time. The
owner brings in a lot of out-of-town music and regularly books local
bands so there's usually music every weekend and some weekdays,
including an open mic. And a delicious and reasonably priced menu and full bar.
Liquid
Assets
A very impressive and friendly wine bar in Ashland, which also hosts
live music on some Monday nights and most Saturdays. WWR was proud to debut
here and loves to return.
Avalon
A very comfortable dinner club in Talent, Oregon, which hosts a
mind-boggling assortment of very professional music, ranging from jazz
to other genres. WWR is also proud to play at the Avalon.
Johnny B's
Not the easiest place to find, but one of the coolest music clubs in
the area. Located in downtown Medford, it has a superb sound system and
nice stage—the owner brings in many types of music. Worth checking out
for sure.
Off The Hook/
The Treasue Trove
Wendy King of Grant's Pass is great friend/advocate to local rock and
roll music. Her radio show (Sundays, 7 pm on 96.9, The Rogue in
Southern Oregon) has featured WWR & Mad World, and The Treasure Trove in GP
hosts some of the best bands around. Check her out!
