About the Band

Based in Southern Oregon, Wine Without Reason features the original songs of Scott Calamar (lead vocals, keyboard, guitar), Kevin McKern on drums, and Bruce McKern on bass.

WWR at Alex's, 12/9/10A singer/songwriter with an edge, Scott's music reflects late influences beginning in the late '60s and '70s including The Beatles/John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman, Elvis Costello, Billy Joel, early Elton John, Paul Simon, Michael Nesmith, Crosby, Stills & Nash, David Byrne, Thomas Dolby. Scott has been writing songs for over 40 years, mostly performing solo and multi-tracking his music (see calamusic.com), though he played with the band Smatter in the late 70s and sporadically to this day. He is an avid supporter of live music in Ashland, Oregon. After sitting out the music scene for about thirty years, Scott decided to give his repertoire life and wings and formed Wine Without Reason in August
of 2010.

He has produced, engineered, and played on sessions in studios from Northern California to Portland.

Bruce McKern plays bass in productions of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Oregon Cabaret Theatre, Rogue Music Theatre, Southern Oregon University, and the Craterian Theatre. He performs in many popular Southern Oregon bands including Mad World, Easy Valley Eight, Gypsy Rogue, Hired Hands, The Mixers, Horsefeathers, and Rogue Elephants, as well as the Rogue Valley Symphony.

Joe Diehl, pictured, was a founding member but has left the area. The band is currently looking for a permanent guitar player to gig with us at the larger venues and at the wineries this summer. Seeking someone strong on rhythm guitar with decent lead (melodic) chops. Please email if interested.
